Beyond the Classroom

We pride ourselves in a holistic education model, where learning, leadership and life skills in action form a holistic experience.
At the Australian Islamic College of Sydney (AICS), education extends far beyond the classroom. While academic learning forms an important foundation, we believe that some of the most meaningful growth happens through real-world experiences, collaboration, and hands-on activities.

Our “Beyond the Classroom” extracurricular programs provide students with opportunities to develop confidence, leadership, teamwork, and responsibility in environments that are engaging, active, and purposeful.

These experiences help shape well-rounded young individuals who are prepared not only for academic success, but for meaningful contribution to their communities.

Whether working together on sustainability initiatives, engaging in outdoor learning, or participating in school-wide activities, students gain valuable life skills that support their academic and personal development.

At AICS, these experiences help shape students who are curious learners, responsible citizens, and confident young leaders, prepared to make a meaningful difference in their communities and beyond.

AICS extracurricular programs

Sport, Movement and
Wellbeing
Physical activity plays an important role in student wellbeing and development. Through organised sports, games, and physical education activities, students learn the importance of teamwork, discipline, resilience, and healthy lifestyles.

Whether participating in structured sport sessions, group games, or playground activities, students build confidence and social skills while developing coordination and physical fitness. These experiences encourage students to challenge themselves, support their peers, and develop a positive mindset toward personal growth.
Environmental Learning and Sustainability
At AICS, students are encouraged to develop a sense of responsibility toward the environment and the world around them.

Through hands-on initiatives such as school gardening, sustainability projects, and recycling programs, students learn about caring for the earth and practicing environmental stewardship. These activities allow students to connect with nature while understanding the importance of sustainability, responsibility, and collective effort.

By participating in these initiatives, students gain practical skills and a deeper appreciation for the values of care, gratitude, and stewardship that are deeply connected to Islamic teachings.
Community and Character Building
Many of our beyond-the-classroom experiences are designed to nurture character and strengthen community spirit.

Through collaborative activities, service opportunities, and shared projects, students learn the values of cooperation, respect, leadership, and service to others. Guided by teachers and mentors, students are encouraged to take initiative, support their peers, and contribute positively to the school community.

These experiences reinforce the importance of good character (Akhlaq) and help students develop the confidence to lead with integrity and compassion.
