The Australian Islamic College of Sydney was established in 1997 by a group of people who set up a registered Islamic school to serve the local community's needs. The students were initially housed in makeshift buildings with almost no facilities and resources. Since then, the College has grown in size, and student numbers have reached more than 750 in 2011.
The College facilities include three laboratories, two libraries, a hall / basketball court, language laboratories, an undercover play area, offices, staffrooms, storerooms, an administration block and more.
The College strives to improve academic outcomes for students. The core values of the College are based on Islamic teachings with a focus on good morals translated into good deeds. Students focus on becoming good Australian Muslims. The parent community has high expectations of the College, and aspires to have their children gain a university education.
Our staff strives to meet these expectations. The College achieves its mission by providing a safe learning environment with an Islamic ethos. Each day at the College begins with prayers; students perform the midday prayer in the adjoining mosque. The College is currently the only Islamic school in the western suburbs serving the multicultural Muslim community. http://www.myschool.edu.au .
Message from the College Board
The Board consolidated its position in the community by appointing new members in 2009, forming a communication committee and a building and maintenance committee. Key initiatives (inclusive of school ethos, financial and academic) for the future were set. The Board engaged in a review of policies as part of strategic planning.
The purchase of the adjoining block of land will provide students with valuable, much needed play and recreation area. The land has been landscaped and is ready for use.
The Board has acted on its vision of improving the facilities of the College, and has planned accordingly, using the BER funding to best serve the community needs.
